Our NiRunning events...
At NiRunning (Northern Ireland Running) our main focus is on providing up to date news, results and information in relation to running in Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland runners competing elsewhere.
As part of our ethos of promoting running within Northern Ireland, we also aim to offer exciting events, which will be provided at as reasonable a price as possible; our hope is also to offer an event for everyone, so one day, we hope to provide at least one road, mountain, track and trail running event every year.
introduced this as our first ever event on Friday 14th
September 2012, not long after the website was set up in August 2012.
In 2013, the NiRunning Mile increased in popularity and has now
become our 'flagship' event. It is a firm favourite amongst our
followers. In 2014 NiRunning Mile was organised alongside the BMC (British Milers Club) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first ever sub 4 minute mile, which was run by Roger Bannister in 1954. The event is now an annual favourite...
NiRunning Trail Race:
Our inaugural NiRunning Trail Race, the 'Killylane Klassic', took place on Sunday 16th February 2014, and saw 120 athletes complete a 5 mile course within the confines of a scenic, snow covered Ballyboley Forest, close to Larne in County Antrim. Unfortunately, due to low numbers and pending high charges by the NI Forestry Service, this event was discontinued from 2016 onwards.
Rathlin Run (NiRunning Road Race):
In 2014, NiRunning joined forces with highly respected charity, Belfast Activity Centre (BAC) in the organisation and running of Northern Ireland's most unique, and arguably, most challenging road race, the 'Rathlin Run'. The Rathlin Run takes place on the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August each year, with a 10 mile Challenge and 5k Run on offer. Details of the event are available within the official event website at www.rathlinrun.co.uk
Mourne Skyline Mountain-Trail Race (NiRunning Mountain Race):
The first ever Mourne Skyline MTR (and associated Granite Trail Race) took take place on Saturday 18th October 2014 in the Mourne Mountain's. The 35k race, which incorporates 3,370m of ascent, attracted athletes from across the globe, including Skyrunner World Series Champion Stevie Kremer (USA) and British Ultra Running Champions Kim Collison and Jo Meek. Full details on the Mourne Skyline MTR and the Granite Trail Race (GTR) can be found on the events official website at www.mourneskylinemtr.com
